Mischievious Woodland Creatures
My garden is decorated with tons of gnome statues. Like most people I had initially found these types of yard decorations very tacky to say the least.
This all changed when I had read that in ancient Norse times, people thought that a child with Down Syndrome was actually a gnome baby left behind after a “human” baby was stolen by the gnome. At first this was quite offensive to me when I first read about it.
However, I realized that this was long long ago. Look at the gnome and you will see the similar small flat facial features, etc. Look at the gnome and you also see a loveable cute mischievious being.
While I would never actually compare my child to a gnome, I still can’t get enough of them. Right now some of these gnomes are busy gardening, some are lazy and napping or playing games in my yard. They remind of the special, magical, and lovely gift my daughter truly is.
